Christmas in the City in the Country
They call Abbotsford the city in the country, and for good reason. When you’re inside our barn visiting the cows you can look across the street and there’s a shopping complex, ‘nuff said. Abbotsford is a perfect combination of city life and country living, and we have a list of things you can do for a perfect Christmas in the City in the Country weekend.
Day 1: Saturday
Start with Saturday Breakfast at Little Brother Brunch: Open 8am-4pm (kitchen closes at 3:30).
Their menu changes often because they use ingredients from local farms, how great is that? They put a lot of effort into creating unique and delicious dishes with a few surprises that are sure to tickle your taste buds (pickled strawberries for instance).
Since Little Brother Brunch is so close to prime shopping in Abbotsford historic downtown you’ll want to head over that way next. Pick up a coffee at any of the heartwarming coffee shops nearby and browse through the unique collection of shops. If you’re still in search of that perfect something for that special someone you’re sure to find it downtown.
After all that shopping your stomach will be grumbling! For a sweet country dining experience head over to the Mt. Lehman area for lunch at Brambles Bistro (Tanglebank Garden) Saturdays: 9am – 4pm
Now we have a bit of a “choose your own adventure” here with two options:
If you haven’t already picked up your Christmas tree you’ll want to head over to Bough and Branch Christmas Tree Farm: Open weekends from December 1-16, 9:00am – 4:30pm.
“Find your family tree, drink some hot chocolate, and make a s'more around the fire.
All trees are $60.00.” Cash only or e-transfer. This year a portion of all tree sales will go to support Hope for Korah. This is their best growing year for trees yet.
If you already have your tree and would like to do a little shopping in a cute Christmassy environment Glenda’s Christmas Cottage is a 2 minute drive from Brambles Bistro.
“At Glenda’s you will know Christmas has begun from the moment you set foot in the door. You will be greeted by the scent of hot spiced apple juice drifting through the air and the sites and sounds of Christmas will usher you inside. Glenda’s specializes in everything Christmas; from ornaments and decor to collectibles like the Authentic Dickens village, Byers Choice Carollers, Snowbabies and Snowpinions. There is truly something for everyone.”
What a day! This is looking like a great Christmas weekend so far. Make sure you rest up with a favourite book or some popcorn and a movie so that you’re ready for Sunday’s adventures…
Day 2: Sunday
You won’t be disappointed with the Sunday Brunch Menu at Fieldhouse.
Whether you’re in the mood for something sweet, savory or just local and delicious they have something for you. Pair your brunch with a sour wheat gose mimosa or merman (their take on a caesar) and don’t forget to look through their merchandise or pick up a growler on your way out.
Once you’ve fueled up for the morning you’ll be ready for the next stop on our list: EcoDairy! (Don’t tell me you didn’t see this one coming.)
Did you know we’re open all year round? Yeah! Rain, wind, snow… No worries, we’ve got you covered. The EcoDairy cows are always happy to visit with our guests. Come watch a quick moo-vie, tour the barn, watch Robby the robot milker, feed the petting zoo animals and learn how we grow grass indoors!
When your stomach starts rumbling again it’ll be time to head over to your next adventure – A food adventure at Nature’s Pickin’s Market! Luckily they’re right next door to us so you won’t have to go far. They make fresh sandwiches and usually have one or two hot soups on. Nature’s Pickin’s is like a treasure hunt for local goodies. After you’ve selected your custom feast you can enjoy it in our Moozanine before you moo-ve on.
Oh – Nature’s also has an assortment of “just add water” ready-to-bake cookie and muffin sacks for purchase. We’re recommending you pick one or two of those up and head home and get baking! There’s nothing better than a home that smells like fresh baked goods. Don’t forget a jug of Vitala Milk to go with it, you’ll be supporting and enjoying local.
That’s it friends! We could add so much more to this list but we thought we would go with a few of our faves to keep it “simple”.
Now go grab some friends or family and enjoy this amazing city in the country.
